In our humble opinion, babymoons are sometimes painted in an inaccurate light. They’re touted as the ‘last hoorah’ before you and your significant other are convicted to a minimum of 18 years under house arrest, with no chance of leaving your suburb let alone the country.
We disagree. While childbirth is definitely life changing, it doesn’t have to put a pin in your travel dreams, and we’ve written plenty of helpful (we hope) guides about the best destinations to visit with kids and teenagers, and even the best resorts for kids’ clubs.
That’s not to say we don’t think babymoons have their place – they absolutely do! They’re the perfect excuse to spend some quality time together, enjoy a well-deserved spot of romance, relaxation and maybe even some pampering, before the little one arrives.
The most important things to consider when booking a babymoon are: accessibility (you don’t want to have to take four separate long-haul flights and a paraglider to reach your accommodation); a tranquil ambience so you can truly unwind; and quality service so that you can enjoy the delicious sensation of being taken care of before it’s your turn to dote on bub.
We’ve found four resorts that tick all of these boxes and more….
Tokoriki Island Resort
For an intimate and romantic retreat in tropical surrounds, you can’t go past Fiji’s most awarded adults-only, luxury resort, Tokoriki Island Resort.
Located in the picture-perfect Mamanuca Islands in the country’s north, Tokoriki Island is accessible twice daily via catamaran transfers that depart Port Denerau but you can also travel by seaplane, helicopter or private water taxi – whatever works for your bump and budget.
A sanctuary for lovers, the resort’s beachside bures and villas are ensconced in lush, tropical greenery, and colourful coral gardens lie in the marine sanctuary just off shore. You can admire the view from the privacy of your swaying hammock or plunge pool with a mocktail in hand, explore the surrounding abundant nature, and finish your day with a famous Fijian sunset and gourmet meal whilst being serenaded by the in-house band.
Home to an indulgent spa, featuring individual and couples’ treatment bures – where water trickles gently over freestanding volcanic rock walls – the resort promises a truly relaxing experience.
Coco Palm Bodu Hithi
Based in the North Malé Atoll, less than 20 kilometres from Male International Airport, Coco Bodu Hithi is not only a stunning and cost effective accommodation option in the Maldives, it’s also one of the most easily accessible in the country.
This chic beach retreat reflects the character of its island home in every dimension – from the pristine palm-fringed beaches and stunning house reef, to the charming décor and sunset cruise across calm waters.
Its tranquil atmosphere promotes the ideal setting to reconnect with yourself, your partner and the wonder of the natural world. Breathe the clean sea air, meet the hawksbill turtles, witness the peaceful majesty of the native nurse sharks, swim with manta rays, and explore the exotic colours of the reef’s inhabitants.
Harmony radiates throughout the award-winning Coco Spa, which boasts a menu of deeply restorative treatments inspired by ancient Indonesian, Thai and Indian techniques. Find yourself under the hands of skilled Thai masseurs; indulging in the spa’s signature ritual; or wafting peacefully between the Jacuzzi, cold plunge pool, sauna & steam room.
Sinalei Reef Resort & Rainforest Spa
Not only does Sinalei Reef Resort & spa offer a range of unique, memorable experiences that showcase Samoa at its finest – including private picnics on the beach and an outdoor cinema – the resort also boasts breathtaking tropical vistas and friendly Samoan hospitality steeped in culture and a deep, soulful history.
It’s the perfect destination if you want a bit of soul rejuvenation infused into your getaway and is best experienced alternating between relaxing at the resort and exploring the local attractions, which include majestic waterfalls, blowholes, rugged coastlines, and jungle-clad volcanic mountain ranges.
Sinalei’s waterfront spa, Tui-I-Lagi, features a beautiful open-air healing parlour where the practiced hands of Samoan spa specialists and the sound of waves lapping below you take you on a therapeutic journey. Offering everything from traditional massages to indulgent body scrubs and wraps, your tranquil pamper session will leave you in a state of complete relaxation.
It’s hard to put into words how magical Bawah Reserve truly is, so you’ll just have to check it out for yourself. The eco-conscious luxury resort occupies an untouched archipelago in the Anambas Islands and is bound to put you in a peaceful and positive frame of mind – the perfect state of being for expecting parents.
Your journey to Bawah is seamless. Starting in Singapore, you will be collected from your accommodation by the resort’s chauffeur. A travel coordinator will escort you by ferry to Batam International Airport, where you will board the resort’s private seaplane for an 80-minute journey over incomparably blue water and an archipelago of stunning, uninhabited islands, landing on Bawah Reserve’s spectacular lagoon in front of your suite, just in time for a gourmet lunch.
Between gourmet picnics on deserted islands, to exploring stunning coral reefs, hiking tracks, untouched forests and crystal-clear lagoons, there’s endless activities to keep you occupied.
Nestled in the island’s beachfront jungle, Aura Spa and Wellness offers a natural and luxurious setting, and an extensive menu of unforgettably cathartic wellness treatments. From traditional, local body treatments to facial cleanses, detox programs and personalised spa rituals, all are designed for total rejuvenation of the mind, body, and spirit.
